Everything's under control! Open environmental air measurements at LUKOIL-Permnefteorgsintez

At the beginning of April 2023, a joint action “Public Control” was held in Perm, during which open measurements of air parameters were carried out using the environmental laboratories of LUKOIL-Permnefteorgsintez.

Perm oil workers note that the reduction in environmental impact is primarily due to the modernization of production facilities, the production of environmentally friendly fuel, the implementation of environmental measures, and, of course, constant environmental monitoring. Planned air monitoring at industrial enterprises is carried out several times a day along the boundaries of sanitary protection zones using stationary automated control posts and mobile laboratories.

Since 2019, LUKOIL-Permnefteorgsintez and Sibur-Khimprom began showing the work of environmental laboratories to citizens, inviting everyone to personally evaluate the reliability of air indicators. Residents of Perm get acquainted with the process of air measurement, learn about the air quality on the border of a specially protected area and in the forest. Sampling and analyzes are carried out in real time.

In April 2023, another raid took place, which was joined by our colleague, head of the separate Perm division of NNIAT LLC, Roman Shulenin. The participants of the action studied with great interest the work of the mobile eco-laboratory. It is equipped with all the necessary equipment for operational air monitoring. The laboratory includes a weather station equipped with sensors for temperature, humidity, wind speed and direction. The mobile post is also equipped with gas analyzers and chromatographs, which analyze the content of substances in the air such as hydrogen sulfide, sulfur dioxide and nitrogen dioxide, carbon monoxide, phenol and aromatic unsaturated hydrocarbons.
The measurement results for all analyzed compounds showed their content to be significantly below the MPC. Participants in environmental monitoring were personally convinced that the technologies used by factories ensure clean air.

The administration of the LUKOIL-Permnefteorgsintez plant took the initiative to involve public control in monitoring air conditions. This is an excellent way to show the openness of the enterprise’s environmental policy and interest in ensuring environmental safety of production.
