Final of the Non-Destructive Testing Competition " Non-Destructive Testing Technician 2022» organized by the Russian Society for Non-Destructive Testing and Technical Diagnostics (RSNTTD)

On October 24-26, 2022, the Final of the "Non-Destructive Testing Technician 2022" All-Russian Non-Destructive Testing Contest was held at the Expocentre Fairgrounds in Moscow. It was organized as part of the All-Russian Professional Skills Competition "Best Professional".

Qualifying (regional) rounds took place from February 1 to September 10, 2022, in 32 regions on the premises of RSNTTD Certification Centers. 394 NDT Technicians from 229 companies participated in the qualifying rounds. Sixty-five specialists from 56 leading Russian companies were invited to participate in the final round. All of them are winners of qualifying rounds of the Competition in multi-nominations, as well as winners of elimination rounds of the Competition with the highest scores in separate nominations.

Our colleague Vladimir Tanin, Head of the Non-Destructive Testing Laboratory, was admitted to the final round of the Competition. It’s worth reminding that in April 2022, Vladimir won 2 nominations in a row in the regional elimination round - Visual Testing (VT) and Visual Testing + Radiographic Testing (VT + RT).

The final round consisted of theoretical and practical parts. The theoretical part of the finals determined the depth of knowledge of the physical principles of non-destructive testing methods, their basic parameters, and technologies. For example, there was a question about the way the increase of the voltage of the X-ray tube affects the efficiency or what type of film should be used to get a clearer image.
The practical part of the Competition's final round consisted in solving non-standard tasks of non-destructive testing using a particular method related. Those tasks were related to choosing control parameters, analyzing the control results, and detecting defects. In particular, the competitors remembered they were tasked with determining the parameters of the weld joint and edge preparation for welding.

As a result of the Competition, Vladimir Tanin became one of the ten best experts in non-destructive testing in Russia in the nomination "Visual Testing + Radiographic Testing" (VT + RT). Nizhny Novgorod Institute of Applied Technologies was awarded the diploma for assistance in conducting the competition " Non-Destructive Testing Technician 2022".

For the first time this year, the press conference devoted to the Competition's final round was held. The speakers shared their thoughts about the importance of the Competition to the industry and professional community, challenges, opportunities, and specifics of arranging the Competition in 2022. It was noted that non-destructive technician is a profession that has a rich past but also has an even greater future. Requirements for equipment quality are constantly increasing, and it is non-destructive testing that provides the opportunity to ensure high safety. The speakers also answered journalists' questions about the non-destructive technicians' skills and the factors that determine them.

The awarding ceremony was conducted by Professor V.A. Siasko, President of RSNTTD, Doctor of Technical Sciences, D.I. Galkin, General Director of NIIIN INPO Spectr, Head of Methodological Centre of NPO RSNTTD, Candidate of Technical Sciences, V.S. Frolov, Chief Specialist of NDT System Department of the self-regulated organization "NAKS Association". V.A. Siasko thanked the organizing committee of the Сompetition, companies of the specialists who participated in the Сompetition, certification centers, and their managers.
